A 63-year-old man was killed in an ATV accident on the west coast of Newfoundland over the weekend, police said on Monday.

On Saturday at approximately 6:00 p.m. NT, the Corner Brook RCMP detachment received a report from a motorist of an accident near Snooks Pond on the Forestry Access Road in Benoit’s Cove.

“An all-terrain vehicle had overturned and a dead man was found in a ditch. A helmet was found nearby. It is believed the accident may have occurred several hours earlier,” the RCMP said in a statement.

Police said the SUV was seized as part of the ongoing investigation and that the medical examiner’s office was involved.
