Pedestrian killed in collision with BPD vehicle

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A Bakersfield police vehicle was involved in a crash that killed a pedestrian on South Union Avenue early Monday, according to police.

At 3:30 a.m., two BPD officers responded to a downtown emergency call. They were traveling north in the 1500 block of South Union Avenue when their vehicle struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries.


Rescue workers provided medical assistance, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

One officer suffered minor injuries. BPD did not provide any information on how the officer was injured.

BPD investigators are currently conducting an investigation into the critical incident. Both officers have been placed on leave, the BPD said in a press release.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released by the coroner at a later date.
