10 Heartbreaking Tweets Show Buffalo’s Reactions to Old Pink

The Buffalo community received some horrific news to start the week: a major landmark in the area was discovered engulfed in flames.

Many people have called it Buffalo’s most famous bar, and it fully deserves that title. The Old Pink, located at the corner of Allen and Mariner streets, was on fire Monday morning.

Photos and video footage have been shared online, with constant updates on the status of the fire, but as of 8 a.m., Buffalo Police Department Fire Chief Paul Graham said the building as a “total loss”.

A neighbor behind the bar filmed the fire shortly after the major flames began. The fire reportedly spread quickly and the fact that it was an older building probably didn’t help the situation.

WKBW reporter Adam Campos was at the scene of the fire, which set off two alarms shortly after firefighters arrived.

Fortunately, no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. However, the fire was deemed so dangerous by the time firefighters arrived on scene that they were unable to fight the fire from inside the building. Instead, they rose above the property in order to put out the fire.

At 7:30 a.m. Monday, the fire was out.

Seeing a major Buffalo landmark be engulfed in flames is not a good way to start the week, and people have mixed emotions after hearing the news of what happened.

The following 10 tweets show the shock, sadness and confusion most people in Buffalo felt after hearing the news:

This is a certain demographic of people who love The Old Pink. Generally, students enjoy going there, but others have no idea what it is.

Those who know his legacy were a little emotional this morning.

Heartbreaking news, for sure.

Shock was my first reaction. The Old Pink seems like a Buffalo staple that might never really go away, but now…the future of the location is unclear.

I mean, it’s legendary, but how could you restore it to its former glory?

A horrible way to start the week.
