Mason City: Emergency alert due to acute burglary situation

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — At around 8:15 a.m. Monday, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office posted an emergency alert on Facebook asking residents to stay in their homes until further notice.

According to a press release from the Mason City Police Department (MCPD), officers are responding to a current burglary report on 4th Street between Virginia Avenue and Vermont Avenue.

The police have not provided any information about injuries or current information on the situation.

The MCPD stated in its press release that a system error caused the emergency alert to be sent to all Mason City residents. The agency said only those near 4th Street SE were affected.
