Police officer suspended after repeatedly hitting a calf with a patrol car in a horrific video

A shocking video shows a British police officer repeatedly driving his patrol car into a runaway ten-month-old calf and was subsequently removed from duty.

The footage shows the speeding police car colliding with the escaped animal, named Beau Lucy, in Surrey on Friday, as a witness shouted from a house above the road: “Woah! What the hell!”

The calf was thrown several metres forward onto the road before the police car crashed into it a second time, apparently in an attempt to stop the animal.

Witness Kai Bennett, 22, said he saw the animal hit by the vehicle five times.

“A big four-wheel-drive police vehicle came and hit the cow at about 30 miles an hour. I freaked out. The cow didn’t hurt anyone. They did it again and this time they kept driving so the car was holding the cow by the neck. It was disgusting,” Bennett told the Times of London.

When the incident occurred, neighbors screamed in horror and many thought the animal was dead, Bennett said.

The calf was hit several times by a police car before it was finally lured into a horse truck by three men.

The calf’s owner, Rob, said he had no idea how the animal escaped and only learned of her disappearance when he saw horrific footage of her capture on social media.

“She actually ran away with another cow and they got separated. We had no idea until we got a call about the other cow. When we went to pick her up on Saturday morning, the people there asked us if we knew about this other animal that had run away. Then we saw it on social media and it was horrible to see,” he told the newspaper.

He called the footage “very disturbing.”

“I think the city police didn’t know how to handle the situation. I can understand that they thought she might be a danger to others, but all you need is a tranquilizer dart,” he said.

Beau Lucy is currently recovering in a barn. She had no broken bones, but it was not immediately clear if she had suffered internal bleeding.

Rob’s partner told the newspaper the cop should be fired and said Beau Lucy could still die of shock after the traumatic incident.

Surrey Police said they decided to use a police car to stop the animal after officers “tried several options to safely capture the cow” and were “extremely concerned for the safety of the public.”

Police added that the patrol car driver had been “relieved of his duties” pending the outcome of the investigation. His identity was not released.

“In addition to our primary duty to protect the public, the welfare of animals is important to us and we know people want answers as to how this happened and what led to it,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Nev Kemp.
