Extreme heat warning today through Friday evening; air quality warning remains in place

Tonight it will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of precipitation and thunderstorms before 9pm. The low temperature will fall to around 24 degrees overnight.

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency continued the air quality warning for Montgomery, Miami, Greene, Clark, Preble and Darke counties until midnight.

Ozone levels in the region can reach or exceed limits that are harmful to health, especially for sensitive groups such as the elderly, children and people with heart or respiratory diseases.

Residents can carpool or use public transportation, refuel their vehicles at a later time, mow in the evening, and avoid using gasoline-powered lawn equipment to help reduce air pollution.

It will be partly sunny on Tuesday, but rain showers and thunderstorms are expected before 2 p.m. Maximum temperatures will be 35 degrees, with lows falling to around 23 degrees overnight, with mostly cloudy skies.

Wednesday, or Juneteenth Day, will be partly sunny and hot with highs around 36 degrees, followed by a partly cloudy night with lows as low as 21 degrees Celsius.

Thursday will be mostly sunny and extremely hot with highs of almost 38 degrees Celsius, while Thursday night will be partly cloudy and lows will fall to 23 degrees Celsius.

The very hot temperatures will continue on Friday into the weekend.
