The police investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Neighbours said armed police searched the area near St Joseph’s Junior School for the animal on Monday morning as residents were asked to stay in their homes.

Speak with BBC WalesOne said: “It was a pit bull-like dog that they rescued from a drug house about seven months ago.

“I saw at least seven or eight police cars here. There were armed police here looking for the dog.

“At 7:30 a.m. there was a knock on my door, the police wanted to check our back gardens. They told us to stay inside.”

Pointing to bloodstains on a gate and a fence, she continued: “I thought it might be the dog’s blood, but the boy’s brother came and told me it was the boy’s blood. He’s not well.”

“They don’t live here, they were walking the dog in the field when it happened.”

Another neighbor added: “I saw a police officer with a gun walk past my window looking for the dog.”

Less than two weeks earlier, a 23-year-old woman died after being attacked by a dog in a gated house in County Limerick, Ireland.

The victim was attacked by the animal on the night of June 4 on the property in the village of Ballyneety.

Despite treatment on site, she was declared dead and her body was taken to hospital for an autopsy.

Local Garda said the dog involved in the attack had been put down, while several others had been seized from the address.
