Piscataway man arrested for unprovoked stabbing near CNBC news headquarters in Englewood Cliffs

Bergen County officials reported the arrest of Mr. Harshkumar H. Patel, a 29-year-old resident of Piscataway, for attempted murder and aggravated assault.AHAAccording to a statement from District Attorney Mark Musella, the incident occurred on Friday, June 14, 2024, when Englewood Cliffs Police responded to a stabbing on Sylvan Avenue at approximately 5:34 p.m.

Officers found a 30-year-old victim who was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment and later released.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and the Englewood Cliffs Police Department determined that the suspect had approached the victim as they were leaving a parking lot in a vehicle.

Prosecutor Musella said the suspect stabbed the victim several times through the open window before fleeing.

The attack was deemed unprovoked because the suspect was a stranger from the victim’s perspective.

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Harshkumar H. Patel was identified as the attacker and arrested outside his Piscataway residence by detectives with assistance from the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force and the Piscataway Police Department.

Patel is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a firearm.
