Man found guilty of raping a girl and attempted murder

A former member of Göring’s militia was found guilty of raping a young girl and throwing a boy off a cliff.

Anthony Stocks attempted to kill the boy in Ovingdean, near Brighton, in September 2022 because he discovered the girl was being abused.

The boy was seriously injured in the 30-meter fall, but survived what police called a “miraculous” recovery.

Stocks, 54, formerly of Iceni Close, was found guilty by a jury at Oxford Crown Court of four counts of sexual abuse of a child under 13, inducing a child under 13 to engage in a sexual act and rape of a child under 13. He was also found guilty of attempted murder.

The court heard how Stocks told the girl about his plan and she warned the boy.

In interviews, the girl said Stocks forced her to perform sexual acts. This made her “scared” and “uncomfortable” and she eventually told the boy.

The boy then tried to stop Stocks, saying he would “interrupt and stop everything,” which “really upset” Stocks.

The girl said Stocks once said he wanted to “get rid of” the boy so he could be alone with her.

She added: “All I remember is that he wanted to push him off a cliff.”

The girl said she warned the boy because she was worried.

The boy said he was on a trip to Chelsea FC in London with Stocks on the day of the attack when he was asked if he wanted to “go and see a view”.

He could not remember being pushed and the last thing he remembered was standing on the edge of the cliff and then waking up in hospital, the court heard.

A passerby testified in court that Stocks sat down after the fall and rolled a cigarette.

Stocks claimed the cliff top visit was a last-minute change of plans.

He said they took a taxi there because it was in the movie Quadrophenia.

He said the boy had become “a little moody” and he warned him not to cross a safety fence near the cliff edge.

The jury heard that Stocks was a film extra who had appeared in the Star Wars series and in JK Rowling’s Fantastic beasts and where to find them.

When he was arrested, police found thousands of pornographic images and videos on his phone. Stocks was later sentenced. DS Rachel Jackson, of Thames Valley Police’s child abuse investigation unit, said Stocks had committed “absolutely appalling and evil offences”.

She said: ‘Over a period of approximately three years, Stocks sexually abused and raped the girl and when the boy realised what was happening, Stocks hatched an evil plan to kill him.

“What happened next was nothing short of horrific. Stocks took the boy to one of the highest cliffs in the area and threw him from the top, knowing full well that he would almost certainly have died.

“He is a very dangerous individual who only thinks about himself and protects himself from prosecution by taking the boy out of the equation. He has shown no remorse whatsoever throughout this investigation.

“I would like to thank both victims for their incredible courage and determination in helping us bring Stocks to justice.”
