Olath daycare has its license revoked for endangering child safety

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) on Tuesday issued an emergency order suspending the Charlotte P. Kauffman Daycare Home in Olathe, Kansas.

The home is located at 14633 West 151st Terrace, near Black Bob Park. The emergency lockdown was imposed because the Secretary of the KDHE believed there were potential threats to the health, safety and security of children at the home.

Specifically, the suspension states that it is intended to protect every child from “physical or mental abuse, abandonment or other significant threats to health or safety.”

The suspension also said the Kansas Fire Inspection Code was violated. The document says the Kansas State Fire Marshal found non-compliant emergency windows and excessive storage of combustible materials at the converted daycare.

This report comes days after one The Overland Park childminder was charged and booked on video from an employee about alleged physical abuse of a three-year-old child.

According to the Kiddi colleague daycare center where the incident occurred, the health department was notified, prompting employee Alyssa Cook to report herself to the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF). They also said a police officer came to the scene, looked at everything and left.

Overland Park Police and DCF are still investigating and no charges have been filed in this alleged incident. Cook reportedly no longer works at the daycare.

In the Olathe case, the minister ordered an immediate suspension of the license of the licensee – the person operating the daycare – prohibiting him from caring for children. This suspension will come into effect when lifted by another order.
