Kanchanjunga Express accident: 15 dead, train carriage hanging in the air after collision; shocking images

West Bengal train accident: Shocking images from West Bengal show a coach of the Kanchenjunga Express floating in the air after a goods train crashed into it at Ruidhasa near Rangapani railway station in Siliguri district of Darjeeling today.

Calcutta: Fifteen people died and more than 60 others injured when a goods train crashed into the Kanchenjunga Express. Shocking images from West Bengal showed a coach of the Kanchenjunga Express floating in the air after a goods train crashed into it at Ruidhasa near Rangapani railway station. Siliguri (city) Subdivision in today’s Darjeeling district.

The accident occurred about 11 km from New Jalpaiguri railway station in North Bengal, one of the largest and busiest railway stations in the Northeast Frontier Railway zone of eastern and northeastern India. Kanchanjungha Express 13174 was coming from Agartala and was on its way to Sealdah railway station in Kolkata. The accident occurred at around 8:30 am.

Teams from the railways, NDRF and SDRF rushed to the accident site to carry out the rescue operation. Horrifying images of the accident showed the intensity of the collision as a coach of the passenger train was found floating in the air.
