Suspect killed in police-involved shooting

A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Pacolet, South Carolina, on Sunday night, according to Johnathan McGill of the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. The Spartanburg County Communications Center dispatched officers to the Pacolet area shortly before 7:45 p.m. to respond to a 911 call about a fight between intoxicated individuals at a pool, McGill said. WYFF News 4 photojournalist Lauren Fleming said law enforcement officers were in the area of ​​Magnolia Street off Highway 150. According to McGill, the Spartanburg County Communications Center said shots were being fired when officers arrived in the area. When officers arrived, they immediately took cover in the woods and observed shots being fired from the house, McGill said. The sheriff’s office attempted to negotiate with the man for about two hours, according to McGill. The suspect fired several shots in the direction of officers, McGill said. According to McGill, the armed suspect then took to the street in a very aggressive manner. Officers on the scene were forced to fire their weapons in response to the suspect’s behavior, McGill said. According to McGill, none of the officers were injured. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been notified and has taken over the investigation.
