Lower probability of rain at the beginning of the week

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – High pressure will build in the Atlantic just northeast of us, shifting winds eastward for the first few days of this new work week. Airflow will be strong, hindering the development of our normal sea breezes. Because of this, it will be hot and dry. Heat index readings will be near 105 in many places. Without significant sea breezes, we can’t expect more than a 30% chance of showers to chase away the afternoon heat. East winds will trap any sea breezes near the coast, so coastal areas may see a few more showers than inland areas over the next few days.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas of possible tropical development. The most promising area is in the southwest Gulf of Mexico, where a tropical depression or tropical storm could develop this week. The storm’s preferred track would be west or west-northwest toward Mexico or Texas.

A second system is being observed off the Atlantic coast. A system could form northeast of the Bahamas and move west or west-northwest. This track could bring increasing precipitation chances to Florida and possibly the Suncoast by the end of this week. Stay tuned.
