Woman arrested for murder after shooting in San Mateo: police

A woman accused of shooting a person in San Mateo has been arrested on murder charges, police said.



SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA – A 34-year-old Ceres woman was arrested Thursday in San Mateo on attempted murder charges, San Mateo police said.

Police officers were called to the area of ​​East Hillsdale Boulevard and Norfolk Street after receiving reports of a person being shot at around 4:45 p.m. Witnesses told officers that the shooting actually occurred nearby in the 1500 block of Lago Street.

When officers arrived, neither the reported shooting victim nor the suspected shooter were on the scene. However, witnesses pointed police to a nearby residence where the suspected shooter had fled.

Meanwhile, police received a report of a gunshot victim found in San Carlos. Police responded and determined that the woman at the scene was the Lago Street gunshot victim. She was transported to a trauma center for medical treatment.

The suspect, Brittany Stewart, was found at the Lago Street residence. Police called in a drone unit and a SWAT team, who contacted Stewart by phone and convinced her to turn herself in.

Stewart was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on several charges related to the shooting.
