Three children and a woman were killed in a house fire in Hanoi, police said on Monday. This is the latest deadly fire in the Vietnamese capital.

The fire raged in the six-story building late Sunday, and three adults were able to escape by jumping onto the roofs of nearby buildings.

More than 100 rescue workers and 12 fire engines were dispatched to bring the fire under control.

When the fire was extinguished, police found the bodies of the 53-year-old woman and three children aged between two and eleven.

The lower three floors of the building were used as a shop and warehouse for paint and building materials, while the outside was covered with advertising boards.

Vietnam’s communist authorities have made efforts to improve fire safety after years of ignoring regulations, particularly in densely populated urban areas.

Another similar fire on Sunday in the city of Bac Giang, 50 kilometers north of Hanoi, killed three people.
