“At a joint TUC/NLC NEC meeting, a relaxation of industrial action measures for one week with immediate effect was agreed,” the source said.

The strike, which began on Monday, entered its second day on Tuesday.

The federal government announced its intention to raise the offered minimum wage of 60,000 naira on Monday after a meeting with the union leadership.

Furthermore, TUC President Festus Osifo confirmed this on Tuesday in Abuja following a joint extraordinary meeting of the unions’ national executive council.

“At a joint TUC/NLC NEC meeting, a relaxation of industrial action measures for one week with immediate effect was agreed,” Osifo told Channels Television.

A communiqué will be issued shortly, said the union leader.

Both unions went on strike on Monday to express their displeasure over the increase in electricity prices and the lack of consensus on a new minimum wage.
