Suspended former Lagos PDP chairman quits party for APC — National Accord Newspaper

A leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and former chairman of the party in Lagos State, Chief Segun Adewale, has declared that he will leave his party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland, said this at a press conference in Lagos on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the PDP in Alimosho Local Government Area of ​​Adewale State suspended its party indefinitely last week.

Adewale, whose political base is Alimosho, was suspended for allegedly sowing discontent within the PDP and damaging the party’s image.

Before his suspension, the former PDP chairman had attributed the party’s failure to win elections in the state since 1999 to corruption and disunity among party members.

At the press conference, Adewale said he would not join the APC to contest the 2027 elections but would contribute to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“I am not contesting the 2027 elections but am joining the ruling party to support the president. My next step is to go to Abuja and prostrate myself before Tinubu,” he said.

Reacting to his suspension, Adewale said his alleged suspension by the PDP in Alimosho LGA was orchestrated by those who campaigned against him for exposing how they embezzled campaign funds in the 2023 election.

Adewale said his suspension had no impact as his ward had full confidence in him and distanced himself from the reported suspension.

Adewale said it was ridiculous that “the same elements would act unconstitutionally by expelling me from the party when they do not have the power to do so.”

He said: “Instead of my party executive suing Bode George and his gang, they claimed that I had stolen the money that was meant for the election campaign and that I had not originally received.

“They said I should be suspended because of this and I told them to come to my ward and suspend me so that I can join the APC.

“What am I even doing in the party? I spent millions on the election campaign, but in the end it’s not worth it.”

“I am not even in the PDP anymore because I have seen everything and would not have stayed in the PDP until now if Atiku Abubakar had not asked me to run in 2023,” he said.

Adewale said he joined the APC to protect his business and the political structure he had built over the years.

He said a certain bank called him and accused him of being politically exposed, meaning he could not even go to the bank to borrow money just because he was a member of the PDP.

Adewale said the people he supported in the PDP in the last election had switched to the ruling party and become commissioners and lawmakers. (NAN)
