Singapore is working to clean up the oil spill after a tanker accident

Like for most residents of Singapore’s expensive coastal enclave on the holiday island of Sentosa, Odhran Dodd’s weekend began with the stench of oil fumes.

“Oh, you could smell it since 7 a.m. this morning,” Dodd said Saturday in Sentosa Cove, a residential area favored by wealthy expats. “We certainly haven’t seen anything as disgusting as this.”

The beach, where his four- and seven-year-old children often play, was covered in black on Saturday following an oil spill the previous afternoon when the Dutch-flagged dredging vessel Vox Maxima rammed and tore into the bunker fuel vessel Marine Honour at the Pasir Panjang Terminal further up the coast.
