Investigations are underway after hours of manhunt for several armed suspects in the NEK

A manhunt for several armed suspects in the Northeast Kingdom lasted throughout the early afternoon and into the evening on Sunday. Vermont State Police said the situation began after officers from Derby Barracks were called to a reported dispute involving firearms just before 1 p.m. People were allegedly injured at a home on Spencer Hill Road in the town of Coventry. When officers arrived at the home, they found two men with non-life-threatening injuries while several armed suspects fled into the surrounding woods. Newport police and police officers were able to quickly and without incident take one suspect into custody. Throughout the afternoon, officers searched the area, which included Route 14, Spencer Hill Road, Hancock Hill Road and Maple Ridge Road, according to VSP. By around 4:30 p.m., all suspects were located and arrested without incident. State police said there was a large police presence visible in the area and one road was closed for most of the afternoon. Nearby neighbors may have heard loud bangs, which troopers said indicated non-lethal explosive devices were deployed. No shots were reportedly fired. VSP said its investigation into the incident continued as of Sunday evening. None of the suspects involved have been identified yet. More details, including charges, will be released at a later date, according to state police.
