2 dead and 6 injured in shooting during Juneteenth celebration in a Texas park

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — Two people were killed and six injured, including two children, in a shooting at a Texas park over the weekend, authorities said.

The victims were shot shortly before 11 p.m. on Saturday during a Juneteenth celebration at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, about 30 kilometers north of Austin.

During a concert at the event, an altercation broke out between two groups and someone started shooting, Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said during a press conference at the scene.

The two victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were not involved in the argument, Allen said.

The shooting occurred near a vendor area away from the stage set up for the concert, Allen said.

The police and firefighters present immediately began providing emergency medical care to the injured and they were then taken to hospitals, Allen said.

Six people – four adults and two children – were taken to a local trauma center with potentially serious injuries, according to an Austin-Travis County EMS post on X.

Police said Sunday that no suspect was in custody and investigators did not know how many shooters were involved.

“It’s heartbreaking for a family that came to enjoy the evening and whose lives are now changed forever because of someone who couldn’t care less about other people’s lives,” Allen said.
