A dream trade for the Buffalo Sabers this offseason

We talked about dream trades and dream signings in free agency for the Buffalo Sabres. For general manager Kevyn Adams, this offseason will most likely determine his future with the organization. Although he said what he was looking for during the offseason, he should try to acquire a player who has something the Sabers lack.

A few months ago, I wrote an article about how the Sabers should model their game after the Florida Panthers. Physicality and toughness are something Buffalo lacks. For my dream trade, the Sabers should call the Ottawa Senators and try to make a deal for Brady Tkachuk.

Much like his brother Matthew, Tkachuk would be the ideal player to have on this Sabers team. In 81 games played, Brady scored 37 goals and recorded 37 assists as well as 134 penalty minutes. Even though he has a cap hit of $8,205,714, his style of play is exactly what Buffalo needs.

The only worry I have is if the Senators would trade him to a team in the same division as them. Ottawa and Buffalo are both young and talented teams trying to reshape themselves and improve for the future. Even though they didn’t make the playoffs, it’s clear that the talent is there.

My guess is the Senators wouldn’t want to trade the face of their franchise, but if he’s available, the Sabers should step in and make a deal. I’m sure the price will be high, but at this point Buffalo needs to take the next step and become a playoff team.

Adding Brady to the mix could make the process easier, and he would be another talented addition to the roster. Between his scoring ability and his tendency to get under the opposing team’s skin, I personally would love to see Adams acquire him one way or another from Ottawa.
