Officers of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers for allegedly raping a married woman at gunpoint.

The state police spokesman, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Sunday.

He also revealed that the suspects raped the girlfriend of their first victim beyond recognition and also robbed her of her belongings, all at gunpoint.

The statement read: “In the early hours of 15/06/2024, police operatives of Abagana Division arrested two serial offenders wanted for alleged rape and armed robbery and recovered two locally made double-barrelled pistols, one locally made single-barrelled pistol, six live cartridges and one Q-Link motorcycle.

“The suspects are identified as Chukwuma Diji ‘M’, also known as Sympathy or Chi-Boy, aged 35 years of Obinagu Umudun village, Abagana and Micheal Edochie ‘M’, also known as Mikel, aged 31 years of Eziabunabu Umudun, Abagana. They are said to have raped a married woman in Obinagu Abagana sometime last year 2023 and fled the community when security operatives attempted to arrest them.

“In addition, on 6/6/2024, the suspects broke into the home of a young woman and raped her and her friend at gunpoint. The criminals later forced one of the victims to transfer money into his account after taking turns to have sex with them. Chukwuma and Micheal have both confessed to the crime.”

He further said: “The Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for full investigation and justice to the victims of the alleged crime.

“The suspects will be brought to justice after the investigation is completed.”
