by Alex Lloyd Gross

Umair Mir, of Warminster, was tried and found guilty by a jury of his fellow citizens of involuntary sexual abuse of a child, involuntary sexual abuse of a person under 16 years of age, sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age by a person over 11 years of age, aggravated indecent assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child under 13 years of age, aggravated indecent assault of a child under 16 years of age, endangering the welfare of a child, enticement of a minor, indecent assault of a person under 13 years of age and indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age.

Two girls who were sisters were raped by Mir multiple times over several years, authorities said. The trial lasted three days. During the trial, the jury was told that Mir raped the two sisters multiple times in every room of a home he controlled. The abuse only stopped when one of the sisters confided in her brother. Not knowing what to do, the brother told Mir’s wife. She reported the abuse to the high school the two now attended. The school notified police, who launched an investigation in December 2023.

The investigation revealed that one of the girls was first sexually abused by Mir when she was 12 years old and the other when she was about 10 or 11 years old. For about five years, the girls were raped and sexually abused by Mir about two to three times a week. During the trial, others who lived in Mir’s home confirmed some of the details. Evidence was also presented during the trial linking Mir to the sexual abuse.

Sentencing will take place after a meeting with the Sexual Offender Assessment Board and is scheduled for September 8, 2024. Mir is 39 years old.
