Sheriff: Man arrested after woman seriously injured in Monroe County shooting

PHILADELPHIA, Tenn. (WVLT) – A woman was hospitalized and a man was taken into custody following a shooting in Monroe County Saturday afternoon, according to Sheriff Tommy Jones.

Jones said officers from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 700 block of Seedtick Road in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman with a gunshot wound, Jones said. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to Jones, a man was found nearby and taken into custody after officers entered the home.

Other agencies involved include the Sweetwater Police Department, the Madisonville Police Department and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Further information, including the suspect’s name and charges, has not been released.
