71-year-old man found dead in his apartment

A 71-year-old man was found beaten to death in his northwest Houston apartment early Sunday morning. It is still unclear who called police to report the incident.

The man’s stepson was found at a nearby convenience store and questioned. According to reports, there were altercations between the man and his stepson.

HPD reported the call came in at 5:14 a.m. Officers arrived at the 4100 block of Sherwood Lane and found the victim inside the apartment.

“It’s sad to see this happen on Father’s Day,” HPD Sgt. remarked. Mike Cass. The stepson is cooperating with authorities and is currently incarcerated in the Harris County Jail.

Neighbors confirmed the family had lived in the apartment for some time and noted previous incidents involving the stepson, including an alleged arrest for theft on the property. The victim had known her stepson since he was ten years old.

The investigation continues and detectives are working to gather more information about the circumstances of the man’s death.
