Columbus police arrest West Side man in connection with Sunday murder

A man was arrested Sunday after allegedly killing a woman in a domestic violence incident on the West Side.

Devon Blair, 23, was arrested by Columbus police on Tuesday on previous domestic violence warrants, while homicide detectives suspect him in the murder of 19-year-old Brooke Devinney, according to Columbus police.

At around 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Columbus police responded to a domestic violence report sent via text message to 911. When officers arrived, they saw a man fleeing on foot, but were unable to arrest him at that time. Police found Devinney, who suffered “very serious physical injuries from the attack.”

Paramedics took Devinney to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m., according to police.

At around 12:30 p.m., officers found Blair and arrested him on outstanding warrants. Devinney, who was in a relationship with Blair, was believed to be the victim of the earlier domestic violence incidents, according to police.
