US Navy rescues crew of Greek ship attacked by Houthis in the Red Sea

The Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) announced on Sunday that a US military operation had rescued the crew of a Greek bulk carrier that was attacked by Yemeni Houthi rebels in the Red Sea last week.

On June 12, the Houthis attacked the Liberian-flagged MV Tutor, hitting the vessel with a small craft and a missile near the Yemeni port of Al Hudaydah.

The Iran-backed terrorist group, which controls most of Yemen’s population centers as well as the capital, claimed responsibility for the attack and linked it to Israel’s conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The attack caused significant damage to the engine room, the ship could no longer move and was filled with water.

According to NAVCENT, a team from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, which patrols the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and eastern Mediterranean, flew the crew off the ship on Saturday.

However, a sailor aboard MV Tutor remains missing, NAVCENT added.
