LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas Police Department employee is accused of stealing from inmates at the county jail, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now investigators.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers arrested Peggy Hendrix, an LVMPD detention services technician, on Tuesday.


Hendrix was accused of stealing personal property from inmates who were being transferred from prison to state custody, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now Investigators.

On May 7, surveillance video reportedly recorded Hendrix taking an inmate’s phone, putting it in her pocket and leaving the jail. The inmate was no longer listed as being in custody Wednesday and it was unclear whether he was arrested the same day.

An investigation revealed that Hendrix allegedly stole additional phones, jewelry and other items, including food, from the store.

Hendrix is ​​charged with theft valued at more than $1,200 but less than $5,000.

LVMPD officials said Hendrix had been with the department since 2007 and was suspended without pay.

Police said the outcome of the criminal and internal investigations will determine her future status with the department.
