2 dead after World War II small plane crashes at Chino Airport

Two people were reportedly killed when the small World War II-era plane they were in crashed after takeoff from a Southern California airport.

In Chino, California, a twin-engine Lockheed 12A crashed near a small airport on Saturday, ABC 30 Action News and KCAL News report. The crash killed the two passengers on board, whose identities have not yet been released.

As Bryan Turner, battalion chief of the Chino Valley Fire District, told ABC News, firefighters arrived on scene around 12:35 p.m. and found the plane 600 feet from the Chino Airport runway on an airport lawn.

According to ABC, the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
