Martin Freeman angers fans with elf ‘date rape’ joke

Martin Freeman shocked fans of “The Hobbit” with a joke about the rape of an elf during an interview on Danish television.

The 42-year-old actor, who plays Bilbo Baggins in the trilogy, was asked who he would most like to date – a dwarf, a hobbit or an elf.

He quickly replied: “Eleven, definitely. Because look at them, they are beautiful. No matter whether they are men or women.”

When asked if the size difference between hobbits and elves could be a problem, he replied:

“I’ve got a ladder. It’s fine. And I’ve got drugs. I could just make them – you know. I could pour something into their cup.

“Some people will take offense at this. Because they will call it rape or whatever. But, um, you know. For me it’s a helping hand.

(The Hobbit: There and Back Again is “very, very emotional”)

“Maybe I should stop talking.”

For some fans, however, it was a little too late.

This is not the first time Freeman has made offhand remarks in interviews.

When asked at a premiere to tell his fans something surprising about the production of the film, he replied that it was “mainly under the influence of cocaine.”

“Primarily – not exclusively – but primarily fuelled by cocaine, because obviously not all of it was cocaine,” he said.

“The rest were speedballs, but a lot was just coke.”

He also joked that he got his role because he slept with the right people, as you can read below…
