1 dead after car crashes into pole and catches fire in Fayetteville

It happened on Murchison Road.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) – One person was killed when a car crashed into a pole and caught fire Sunday morning, Fayetteville police said.

Shortly after 4am, officers were called to Murchison Road for a traffic accident.

According to investigators, a car was traveling south on Murchison when it struck a pole, causing the car to catch fire.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity will not be released until next of kin have been notified.

Thousands of Duke Energy customers near South New Hope Road and Poole Road were without power for hours after the incident.
