Rail service suspended due to persistent heavy rain in China

In emergency response to the risk of flooding caused by persistent rainfall, railway authorities in eastern China’s Jiangxi and Fujian provinces have suspended passenger train services on four railway lines from Saturday to June 19.

According to China Railway Nanchang Group Co., Ltd., 17 train journeys through the provinces were cancelled on Saturday as part of flood control measures, Xinhua news agency reported.

The company said it was closely monitoring the potential risks posed by heavy rains along the railway lines and was mobilising staff around the clock to guard the vulnerable areas.

The Ministry of Water Resources on Friday imposed a Level IV emergency response due to flooding in Guangxi, Fujian, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces from Friday to Sunday. Heavy rains are expected to cause water levels in major rivers such as the Xijiang and Minjiang to exceed warning thresholds.
