Houston Rockets camera crew documents Fred VanVleet’s return to Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Friday kicked off a big weekend in Rockford for Fred VanVleet and the VanVleet Family Foundation. There was a public block party downtown and the “Bet on Yourself” ball. On Saturday, it was time to get to work on the basketball courts.

Fred’s annual camp for area youth was held at the UW-Health Sports Factory downtown. The camp reached its maximum in terms of children registered, once again demonstrating the popularity of this camp.

Fred oversaw everything. He had a great team of instructors working with the kids. These children ranged from kindergarten to 12 years old. They will be back on the field for the second day of camp on Sunday.

A Houston Rockets camera crew was also at camp Saturday. That’s right, the crew members came from Houston for this weekend’s activities. Turns out they’re making a documentary about VanVleet.

“We’re making a documentary about his journey home and what he gives back to the community, seeing his friends, reuniting with his family members and helping tell the story to the people of Houston,” Max said Labadie from the Rockets’ digital production department.

This documentary will be edited in August and can be viewed at the end of the summer on the Houston Rockets YouTube and Instagram accounts.
