Shocking moment: Ben Whittaker is attacked with headbutts and elbows as he outclasses his angry opponent

BEN WHITTAKER was attacked with a headbutt and an elbow strike, but still managed to win a boring, one-sided fight.

The talented 27-year-old Olympic silver medalist was attacked several times by the underdog light heavyweight Ezra Arenyeka, who was rightly deducted a point for his foul.

But the fight at Selhurst Park turned out to be a bit of a flop, with everything going one way and the British star fighter unable or unwilling to push for a stoppage before the judges scored the fight 100-89, 99-90 and 99-90.

The 28-year-old Arenyeka, with his beautiful muscles and glittering shorts, looked hopelessly inferior and little more than a human punching bag.

Whittaker’s Pink He was hit by gloves from all sorts of angles and nothing the Nigerian threw back came close.

The final 30 seconds turned into an awkward dance competition as the two pretty boys did their best for their Strictly audition.

The Baggies show-off stared more at the freezing crowd than his opponent in the second half, but the rain stopped the action.

Arenyeka thought he had better chances in the third set, sling Haymaker in Whittaker’s vague direction and grabbed him in an attempted chokehold directly from the Wrestling Manual.

Whittaker’s designer goatee was grazed in the fifth round when Arenyeka lost the fear of his punches and started throwing everything at him.

In the sixth round, when the tricks and flicks became tiring, Arenyeka accidentally punched him in the butt, but he needed that kick as he was rolling around in low gear.

And Whittaker got the shock of his life when he tried to taunt his opponent by leading him back to his stall at the bell and was rewarded with a headbutt for his efforts.

Arenyeka lost a point in the seventh round when he added an elbow strike to his headbutt routine, but the crowd had long since lost interest by that point.

Arenyeka threw a hook so wild in the ninth round that he spun 360 degrees, and the fans in the turnstiles must have been wishing for the same move as the one-sided fight turned sour.
