SEKGAKGAPENGVILLAGE: A 45-year-old man was arrested on Friday, 14 June 2024, for raping his 8-year-old stepdaughter at her residence in Sekgakgapeng at Mahwelereng Police Station.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect raped his stepdaughter between May and June 2024, when the victim’s mother left him alone with the child.

The victim’s mother was away for several days for treatment because she was not feeling well. On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the mother returned home and the victim told her mother that her stepfather had raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

The mother took the child to a local hospital for medical care and doctors confirmed penetration.

Ledwaba says the police were notified and a rape case was opened. The suspect was then arrested.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident and praised the police for quickly arresting the suspect.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court in Mokopane on Tuesday, 18 June 2024.
