Window of Ontario synagogue smashed in vandalism incident

According to police and Jewish organizations, the window of a synagogue in London, Ontario, was smashed on Thursday evening as part of a wave of attacks on Jewish institutions in Canada.

London police said Friday that a stone was found on the ground near a broken window at the Beth Tefilah Synagogue, causing about $150 worth of damage.

Law enforcement authorities asked for public assistance in the investigation.

Insult to values

The London Jewish Federation condemned the vandalism as an “insult to Canadian values of respect and community.”

“As we approach Shabbat, a time of peace and reflection, we call on local authorities to thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure those responsible are held accountable,” the association said. “It is vital that we stand together against hate and work towards a community where everyone feels safe and respected.”

The association noted that this was not an isolated incident, but rather a trend of vandalism at synagogues in Canada.
