Greensboro police make arrest in January murder case

ON WXII 12.COM. NEW TONIGHT: Greensboro police officers have arrested someone in connection with a fatal shooting in January. Police arrested 32-year-old Jose Luis Ray Lopez on Friday. He is accused of first-degree murder on Jan. 21. Gabriel Salazar Lopez, 36, died after being shot in a parking lot near Bar Latino on West Meadowview Road. Lopez is being held without bail tonight.

The Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team arrested Jose Luis Rea-Lopez, 32, on Friday in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and another injured in January.

Detectives with the Greensboro Police Department made an arrest in connection with a shooting at Bar Latino that left one person dead. According to a press release, the Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) arrested 32-year-old Jose Luis Rea-Lopez on Friday. Lopez is charged with first degree premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. This arrest is in connection with a reported shooting on January 21, 2024, that occurred just after 2 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, 36-year-old Gabriel Salazar-Lopez was found in the parking lot near Bar Latino with life-threatening injuries. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A second person shot was treated and released. Rea-Lopez was taken to the Guilford County Jail, where he is being held without bail. His court date is scheduled for Monday, June 17. Popular Stories
