Angel City and Houston play to draw after controversial ending

Angel City and the Houston Dash found themselves tied when video review determined Messiah Bright did not score in the final moments of added time Saturday night in the National Women’s Soccer League.

It appeared the ball could have crossed the goal line when it went through the legs of Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell, but review did not confirm that Angel City had scored.

Angel City (3-6-3) is winless in five straight games. The Dash are 3-6-4.

“I’m not going to say any comments, because I think I’m going to get in trouble,” Angel City coach Becki Tweed said. “I have my feelings and my thoughts and I’m sure you can see them on the sidelines, and I’m just going to keep them to myself.”

The NWSL does not have goal line technology.

Campbell, who recorded her 35th clean sheet, saved Claire Emslie’s penalty in the 55th minute. Campbell currently leads the league in saves with 64 and has eight career penalty saves in the regular season.

Campbell pounced to stop Alyssa Thompson’s powerful shot in the 28th minute. Campbell also saved MA Vignola’s on-target header in the 88th minute.
