1 dead and 3 injured in shootings in Milwaukee parks

One person is dead and three others are injured after shootings at two Milwaukee parks on June 15. Both occurred about 30 minutes apart.Milwaukee police said a 6-year-old and a 37-year-old were shot near 37th Street and Meinecke Avenue in Butterfly Park around 5:15 p.m. on June 15. A WISN 12 news crew on the scene saw Butterfly Park cordoned off with crime scene tape. Both are expected to survive. No one is in custody. Police are investigating.Neighbors who live near Butterfly Park said children from a nearby school use the park for recess. “It’s really scary because there are a lot of kids in the area who want to go out and play in the parks. Who would let their kids play here?” said Ryan Zydiak, who lives nearby.Just blocks from the scene, the Milwaukee Fire Department was called to a shooting in Sherman Park about 30 minutes later. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 5:41 p.m. near the playground. One person died from a gunshot wound. Another person was shot but did not suffer life-threatening injuries. No one has been arrested yet for the Sherman Park shooting. The sheriff’s office said the shooting may have been the result of retaliation for a fight that preceded the shootings by several minutes. A WISN 12 News photojournalist on the scene saw dozens of evidence markers outside the Mary Ryan Boys & Girls Club. It’s unclear if the two shootings are related. Anyone with information should call Milwaukee police.
