More heat and humidity expected for Father’s Day

48 FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS remain in effect today and through the rest of the weekend due to extreme heat and humidity. Highs will rise to the 90s to 150s, with feel temperatures in the 100s and above. If you are outdoors for extended periods, please remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade. Scattered showers or thunderstorms are possible during the evening hours, but most locations will remain completely dry. Skies will remain mostly clear at night, with lows falling to the 70s to 150s.

Unfortunately, the hottest and most oppressive day will likely come on Sunday, Father’s Day. Highs are expected to be between 35 and 40 degrees, but when you factor in humidity, the heat index will be between 38 and 40 degrees. It’s very important to drink plenty of fluids, wear loose, breathable clothing, check on the elderly, and protect your pets. The chance of showers and thunderstorms will again be low, possibly bringing brief relief from the heat, but cloud cover will be rather limited. Expect a few passing clouds overnight, with mild and muggy lows remaining between 23 and 25 degrees.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue into the start of your next work week, with highs getting slightly cooler at just above 35 degrees. More clouds are expected by Tuesday, with lows between 21 and 25 degrees. Heat and humidity will return to the region later in the week, with highs rising to just above 35 degrees by Thursday. The mostly dry and hot weather will likely continue into next weekend, so make sure you find ways to cool off!
