(KRON) – A total of 36 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition were seized in connection with the arrest of a San Jose man, police said Wednesday. According to San Jose police, the arrest came after investigators discovered evidence of illegal firearm sales during a traffic stop.

Early on Jan. 16, San Jose police conducted a traffic stop where 23-year-old Juan Rodriguez Sandoval of San Jose was suspected in connection with the illegal sale of firearms, SJPD said. Investigators alleged that Rodriguez Sandoval also transported the weapons with minors in the vehicle.

On April 25, a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1700 block of Cortez Avenue. Rodriguez Sandoval was located and arrested during the raid. Police seized 19 firearms from the residence, as well as “thousands” of rounds of ammunition, explosives and firearm accessories, SJPD said.

SJPD obtained a gun violence injunction to confiscate his legally owned firearms.

Authorities said the raid identified a second home in San Benito County that was linked to the investigation. During the execution of a search warrant at this location, 17 additional firearms were discovered.

A total of 36 firearms were seized, including six ghost guns and one assault weapon, SJPD said.

Rodriguez Sandoval was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of child endangerment, possession of illegal firearms and possession of an assault weapon.
