I’m lucky to be here: Gordon Ramsay has ‘really bad’ bike accident

Gordon Ramsay said he was “lucky to be here” after experiencing a “really bad” cycling accident in the US.

The celebrity chef was shaken after the incident in Connecticut, which left him with a bruise that appeared to cover a large part of his chest.

The 57-year-old presenter and restaurant owner, who hosts the program “Kitchen Nightmares,” shared photos showing his torn clothes and crushed helmet.

In an Instagram video he uploaded on Saturday, his hands shook as he urged people to wear helmets, no matter “how short the ride.”

He said, “Hey guys, this is Gordon. I want to share a very important message with you all.

“You know how much I love cycling, triathlon and Ironman (races) etc and unfortunately this week I had a really bad accident which has really shaken me and honestly I’m glad to be here.

“These incredible trauma surgeons, doctors and nurses in the hospitals have taken care of me this week. They have been amazing, but honestly, you have to wear a helmet.

“I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care… these helmets cost money, but they are essential. Even on short rides, kids have to wear a helmet now.

“I’m glad I can stand here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. But somehow I’m getting through it.”

He added that it was a “huge” weekend because of Father’s Day, which is on Sunday.

Mr Ramsay also captioned the post saying that he was “fine and has no broken bones or major injuries but does have a few bruises and looks like a purple potato”.

He added that he was treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, and that the helmet “saved” his life.
