Third Annual Community Day at Bakersfield Police Department Park

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Bakersfield Police were at Jefferson Park for Community Day on Saturday.

This is the third annual BPD Community Day at the Park.

“Our goal is to create a positive environment where the community comes out and engages with the Bakersfield Police Department,” said Sergeant Eric Celedon.

Many units showed their flag as the public came together to interact, talk, understand and have fun with their local officials.

There’s even a car show with an award for best car overall, an award for the boss’s car, and an award for the car most likely to get stopped.

“We come every year to help the police league, we show our cars,” said Shellie Ryan, who attended the car show. “We have a great car family.”

Sergeant Celedon and Chief Terry spoke about the importance of a police department having a strong bond with its citizens and said they are grateful that the relationship between Bakersfield and its police department is so strong.

“We have a wonderful community and are connected to our community in many ways. We feel and hear their support daily,” said Chief Terry.

Chief Terry said the event is a great way to build relationships with the community so they and the police can work together.
