Elwood man dies after accident on State Road 28

TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. – An Elwood man was killed when his car plunged into a creek north of State Road 38 Saturday morning.

Officers and members of the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene and found the crashed car in a creek. Emergency personnel immediately entered the creek and attempted to render medical aid to the driver, but unfortunately he was pronounced deceased.

According to a preliminary investigation, the driver, identified as 40-year-old Philip “Kyle” Degler, was driving a 2016 Kia Soul westbound on State Road 28 when the Kia left the roadway on a curve on SR28 for an unknown reason. The car reportedly continued northwest through a small cornfield before crashing and coming to rest in the creek.

According to police, the investigation is ongoing and the Tipton County Coroner’s Office is working with the Indiana State Police to determine the exact cause of the accident.
