Student claims police forced her to sign a false confession

The British student accused of fabricating rape allegations against a group of Israeli tourists in Ayia Napa claimed that police forced her to sign a false confession.

Accordingly The sunThe unidentified 19-year-old was denied a lawyer and investigators then pressured her to drop her complaint.

The teenager reportedly claimed that officers then dictated a statement to her in which she admitted to making up the allegations.

She stated that she reluctantly signed the document after being interrogated for eight hours at the police station.

British lawyer Michael Polak from the campaign group Justice Abroad, who is fighting for the young woman’s release, said: “The confession was extracted under duress, in the face of threats.”

“She was not given a warning or access to a lawyer, although she is entitled to one under the European Convention on Human Rights.

“In addition, the young woman was neither told that she could leave the police station nor was she given the opportunity to do so at any time.

“It can also be assumed that unfortunately nothing was recorded of what happened at the Cypriot police station.”

The woman faces a one-year prison sentence and millions in damages if her allegations are proven false.

A lawyer for the men said last week they planned to sue the woman after they were arrested on July 18 and held in custody for nine days.

It had previously been claimed that the woman made up the claim because she was “angry and insulted” that some of the men had filmed her having consensual sex with others at the Pambos Napa hotel in Cyprus.

Ayia Napa is extremely popular with young people and 1.3 million Brits visited Cyprus last year.
