Emirates suspends check-in at Dubai Airport following torrential rain, affecting passengers from Birmingham

Flights from Dubai have been cancelled due to torrential rain, as passengers from Birmingham are caught up in the travel chaos. Emirates has suspended all check-ins at Dubai Airport for the remainder of today, Wednesday 17 April.

Two Emirates flights to Birmingham Airport were due to depart today, but the entire flight schedule was suspended until midnight. Dubai Airport also asked travellers not to come into the terminals unless it was “absolutely necessary”. Rain fell in a day that was the most rainy in 12 months, causing terrible flooding that inundated the airport and roads. The storm in the United Arab Emirates is believed to be the heaviest rainfall in the country in 75 years.

Flights from BHX to Dubai departed yesterday, April 16, and are scheduled to depart later today. Holidaymakers are advised to check with their airlines for delays and disruptions.
