Michael Harris II injury update: Braves outfielder suffers Grade 2 hamstring strain

Following today’s 9-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, it was announced that Michael Harris II suffered a grade 2 hamstring strain. The timeline for his return to the lineup is unknown according to Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker, who spoke to reporters after the game.

Harris II injured his hamstring from first to third in the first inning of yesterday’s win over the Rays. He was replaced by JP Martinez.

Jarred Kelenic started in center field for Atlanta today and took over. Before the game, the Braves recalled outfielder Roman Laureano to take Harris II’s place when Harris II was placed on the 10-day IL.

Harris II had struggled this season – like many Braves regulars – with a .250/.295/.358 slash line at the time of his injury. He had recently spent time leading Atlanta as the team looked to replace Ronald Acuna Jr. in the lineup after Acuna Jr. was lost for the season last month.

A 2019 study published in the Orthopedic Journal of Sports Medicine found that the average time missed for a grade 2 hamstring strain in baseball players was 33 to 34 days, meaning Harris could wait 4 at 6 weeks until he is capable. to be activated from IL.
