This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

While rushing to an apparent fatal dirt bike accident on Saturday, June 15, a Wareham Police patrol car was involved in an accident with a minivan.

The dirt bike accident involved “a juvenile” and occurred at the motocross track at 131 Atwood Farm Way in East Wareham, according to Wareham police. It is unclear if the juvenile was a boy or a girl.

On Facebook, track operator Diamond MX announced that a “tragic accident” had occurred on the track.

“The Diamond MX family extends its deepest condolences to the rider’s family and everyone involved,” the post said.

“We can say with confidence that all safety measures have been taken and implemented today… However, we are also aware of the risks involved,” it said.

The track will remain closed tomorrow, Sunday 16 June, while track operators consider their response.

According to Wareham police, the Massachusetts State Police are investigating the accident along with the District Attorney’s Office.

131 Atwood Farm Way was formerly operated as Wareham MX and its closure was announced in March 2022. A 13-year-old girl from Carver was killed in an accident on the track on September 6, 2021.

Separately, a Wareham Police patrol car was involved in an accident en route to the incident.

The patrol car had its lights and siren on and was involved in an accident with a minivan shortly after 12:30 p.m. The accident occurred at the corner of Union Avenue and 12th Street in Onset.

The police officer involved was taken to Tobey Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Wareham police. It is unclear whether the driver of the minivan sustained any injuries.

A resident at the scene said the patrol car was “no doubt traveling at 60 to 70 miles per hour down a residential street.” According to that resident, an officer at the scene said the patrol car “ran into another accident involving an unresponsive victim.”
