Man rapes woman under the pretext of work

Bhubaneswar: The aerodrome police arrested a 30-year-old man here on Friday for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of getting her a job. The aerodrome police station IIC Sashikanta Rout said the accused has been identified as Diptiranjan Palei, a native of Orada village in Khurda district. The accused, a government food safety officer, met the victim’s husband at an event in 2023 when the latter asked Palei to find a job for his wife.

Subsequently, the couple also paid Rs 600,000 to Diptiranjan, Rout added. After the payment, Diptiranjan asked the victim to come to a hotel for training purposes, the IIC said, adding that he then raped the woman and threatened to murder her if she revealed the matter in front of others. However, the victim lodged a complaint at the Airfield police station demanding immediate action against Diptiranjan. Police booked Diptiranjan under sections 376 (1), 417, 420 and 506 of the IPC and produced him before a local court on Friday.
