Five arrested for raping 17-year-old girl in Ganjam district – Republic World

Berhampur: Five engineering and pharmacy students were arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Ganjam district of Odisha, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on May 3 in Baidyanathpur police station area of ​​Berhampur town after one of the accused, who knew the girl, took her to his house while he was waiting on the road for her father to pick her up He offered her a drink laced with sedatives, a police officer said.

When the girl felt dizzy after consuming the drink, he called his other friends, who were staying together in a canteen and studying in various pharmaceutical and technical colleges in the city, and they took turns to rape her, the police commissioner said from Berhampur, Sarthak Sarangi. They later took her to another location and threatened her not to tell anyone about the incident.

However, she informed her parents about the incident and they lodged an FIR on May 5 following which the accused were nabbed and medical tests were conducted on them and the survivor, he said.

“Cases have been registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act and further investigation is underway,” he said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab another absconding accused.
